Real Talk Though
You’ve probably watched at least one TED talk on YouTube and found it life-changing. You’ve even probably recommended these videos to your friends and family. Now, what if we told you that you get to watch a Live Ted talk from the luxury of your home, and see it as it — no edits, no cuts! The Hub Bengaluru has a lot to do with making that happen for you!
In an ongoing collaboration, TEDxLavelleRoad and The Hub bring you an exciting series called ‘Bend The Curve’. But first, let’s get to know TEDx a little better. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
The Hub first collaborated with TEDxLavelleRoad in 2018 in a rooftop session which featured 6 speakers. The session focused on how dynamic and diverse women consistently show up in the face of adversities and challenges while empowering the rest in the process. With its immense success, TEDxLavelleRoad included Gala Dinners as a part of the pre-event celebration for the friends and families of the key speakers.
In its 2-year partnership, The Hub and TEDxLavelleRoad worked together to accustom us to stories and talks by the most fascinating people. So it’s no surprise that in light of the recent events, they came up with the best way to make your experience even more interesting. Never been done before, until now- we present to you, ‘Bend The Curve’! It is a special series of short Instagram Live sessions by TEDxLavelleRoad, bringing together incredible speakers who will inform, inspire, entertain, and engage viewers during their time at home. The series is the brainchild of Vikram, the Chief Storyteller at The Hub, and is the first-ever TEDx chapters to utilize social media to unite people during these testing times.
In the first episode of the series, Rupert Picardo, founder of D’frns consulting and Mystery Junkies shared how viewers can creatively embrace the ‘new normal’. He shared how people can creatively use simple items found at home like making art on eggshells, making a sculpture out of a piece of twig, creating artistic notebook covers, etc. He also taught people how to funk up their boring COVID-19 masks into ‘Happy Masks’ by making them fun pieces of art by drawing, doodling, and painting on them.
In episode 2, Diya Ramachandran, the artist behind The Happy Wall Project, spoke about the art of personalization with everyday items. She taught the viewers how to use easy designs to personalize coffee mugs, water bottles, diaries, pen stands and so much more.
Episode 3 was music to the ears! In a musical evening featuring Rickson Jose who sang some beautiful melodies from the years gone by, the session remembered the legends that we lost during these difficult times- Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan. It then moved on to songs about friendship, love, and the joy of living while taking a couple of viewer requests! You could call this episode a people’s favorite.
We wanted to shake it up a bit, so our 4th episode was a virtual Mixology workshop. It was conducted by Ranson Carvalho, a mixologist, and partner at Bar Square Academy of Bar tending. In an exciting session, Ranson demonstrated 3 super delicious cocktails and mocktails that people could make at home, and chill during the lock down. He used easily available ingredients like ginger, lemon, water, melon, honey to fix up a tall glass of delicious drinks! It’s no surprise that this session received a wide viewership!
In the upcoming 2 episodes, the series will feature Dr.Ann Xavier talking about the importance of Mindfulness during a pandemic, and we’ll have Dr.Prabhakar Rao sharing some home gardening hacks to keep our surroundings beautiful even during tough times.
Make sure you tune in to be a part of India’s first virtual TEDx series and make the best out of the most challenging times.
